Sing Your Heart Out

Item. Check it out!!! embodimentis accepting new members until December 31! I've been watching the community since, about, forever. And I've been dying to join. Membership for 2008 is finally open, and I'm so excited (hence, more entries in this sadly neglected journal *grin*). This past year, in fact, I think I only missed a handful of days out of the year. And this gives me good motive to cross on of the things on my Life List off - journal everyday for a year. :) Wish me luck!!

Item. Every year, there's a craft sale at school, and this year, the art majors were given two free tables. I made a bunch of watercolour paintings to sell - and the best thing about it is, because we didn't have to pay to be in the sale, we get to keep every penny of the profit. :) I made $62 at the sale, and I've sold a couple paintings to other people, so in total, a nice $87. I'm happy. And I've already spent it. X3 On some books - The Afghan Campaign by Steven Pressfield, Pompeii by Robert Harris, and Warfare in the Classical World by ... John Warry? I forget at the moment. :P

Item. Speaking of books, I recently finished rereading Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield. Best. Book. Ever. I love it so much. <3

Item. It's about time I started paying more attention to this sad, lil, neglected journal, huh? Okay. Will do. *nodnod* More posts. I'll try to put up something interesting every couple of days. Like I used to do in my old journal. That was fun. :) And I need to redo my user info ... I don't think it's really working out.

Item. Shelby coloured my lineart!! I'll post that in a while, I promise.

Item. My dear PhantomJustice is baaaack! <3 I love her so much, and I can't begin to tell you just how much I missed her when she wasn't around. My Phantom friend is back. *smiles*

I explore your smile

How I would
languidly reside as a kiss
and live,
unto forever

You make happiness more than a word
that lingers,
makes you linger
as I linger over yours

You catch me unawares
and tease my soul out through my smile
and implore me to breathe in deep

Let us learn
the language between our smiles
divided, united, undeterred

I explore your smile

Queen of Crows

It didn't really work out. And the finished, coloured piece scanned horribly. I guess that's what happens when you wrinkle the page by applying too much watercolour and pencil crayon on thin paper ... I'll remember that.
*... forgets*

As coloured by Shelby

And, look look look!! One of my best friends, the talented Shelby, recently got a tablet, and one of the first things she did was colour my lineart of Queen of Crows! It looks amazingly beautiful, and I'm sooo grateful and flattered that she coloured one of my pieces. *beams* I adore it!!!

You can see more of Shelby's amazing artwork at her deviantART gallery.
~someotherwhere on deviantART

Item. I haven't updated in two weeks? Or is it longer now? Ah, either way, you must excuse my absence this past little while. It seems as though grand daydreams and the drudgeries of school have taken up a great portion of my time as of late.

Item. Also, I haven't been producing very much artwork lately. I can't remember if I've brought it up before here, but I've been going through a severe artist's block, ever since mid-July. I won't hesitate to say that it's the worst case of a mental blocker I've had in my entire, rather short, life. And I don't exagerate, either. I've gotten a new sketchbook, and the ideas still haven't come. Surprisingly, since new art supplies usually triggers vast amounts of inspiration. After watercolouring the first page and putting in my customary quote, and then collaging the next few pages, I feel a little bit better ... but no lightning bolt of divine inspiration has hit me (yet).

Item. And the Art Major course certainly isn't helping move this block along any. *rolls eyes* We're doing raku clay boxes. I will explain the raku bit, but clay boxes ... for god's sake, how on earth am I supposed to be creative with a box? And anyone who's spent one minute with me whilst working on this project knows that I have a personal vendetta with clay. So ... WTF?! Nonetheless, I'm glad to report that the two boxes we are required to complete, I'm done. All that's left is the glazing a firing, which is the special part of this whole project. It's a special kind of glaze, and when the clay is fired in a certain kind of raku klin, and moved to a cold place, the glaze cracks and all the exposed clay underneath turns black. Or, at least that's how I've been told it works. The results sound interesting, but the procedure is making me want to rip my hair out. Jenna doesn't do clay!!

Item. Speaking of that project ... I should probably be doing the research for it (which is supposed to be done before one starts, but what the hell).

All The World In My Hands

Item. Last week, I picked up my class schedule for the school year of 2007-2008. Yieppe (note my excrutiating enthusiasm *rolls eyes*). Anyway, I do have to admit ... my classes are friggin' awesome. :P This semester, I've got three classes everyday (Applied Math, Biology and History), and every other day, I have two periods of Art Major ... but, c'mon. Art is so much fun that it hardly counts as a class. :3 And three spares! Cuz ya know what I'm doing right now? Sitting at home writing on lj, because I've got three spares in a row. :D The fifteen minute drive to and from school doesn't even count because the break is just so long. And on days when I don't have this, I have a spare at the end of the day - and my second semester is even better. One class and Art. *nodnod* I don't have a single full day of class at all this year. You're damn right you better envy me. *smug*

Item. Today is the first full day of class at school (for everyone else, see above *smug, again*). Just thought I'd mention it. We did go back yesterday, but only for the afternoon, which was shortened anyway. :P

Item. Excitement! The DVD of Alter Ego will be released very, very soon. *grin* For those who aren't privy to this tidbit of info, Alter Ego is a Greek movie production starring none other than our dearest Sakis. In all honesty, I really don't count on the movie being a masterpiece mediocre at best, really (despite being Greece's largest production). I only want to see it because of Sakis, of course. XP It'll be released for rental in Greece on September 7 (me thinks ...) and then for sale, with English subtitles, next month. Not sure on the specific date just yet, although I'm hoping that it'll be soon enough to ask for it for my birthday in October. *grin* Because I've been told the CD supply line has been cut off ...

Item. ... which means I have to get a job. *lazy ass* But, that's just a small part of the equation. I am shy. Seriously, if you can find a person who is more shy than me, well ... you don't have a person - you have a ghost, okay? Apparently, I have a ghost complex (according to my brother, of course X3). Yes, it's a social hindrance. No, I don't like it. Yes, I haven't gotten a job yet because I'm afraid of (a) having no friends around and (b) dealing with very frightening, very angry customers who can't put up with the bumbling trainee. I do have some perspective jobs, though. Most notably would be at a local Greek diner with Serena, who also wants to work their.

A Song For The Rain

I trace embers
with bare fingers

tears
are the prelude
to rain

in this dance
of Hope and Despair,

can't you see
that Heaven and Hell
are on the same horizon?

* A poem for the people and country of Greece, as the fires continue to burn. All of my wishes, hopes, prayers and love are for you. And now a poem.

Fires Over Greece

Fires are ravaging half of Greece.

I cannot bring myself to believe it ... it is so horrible to hear.

Over sixty people have died, and many more have lost loved ones. So many have lost their homes to the fire, and now thousands of acres of the pristine, beautiful Mediterranean land and forests have been turned to ash. Everything is burning - roads, villages, forests, homes, animals, people, historical sites ...

It breaks my heart.

And the thing that really bothers me the most is that historical sites are being threatened by the fire. It's devastating beyond belief to know that these ancient ruins may be destroyed, or damaged beyond repair. Greece has such a fascinating, rich history, and to loose something as priceless, as irreplaceable as that ...

Ancient Olympia, the site of the ancient Olympic Games for over a thousand years, was threatened by the wildfires. The forest around the site burned, although none of the ruins were damanged. However, it seems just as much destruction was caused, anyway - the area around Olympia was rich with ancient vegetation. Three hundread year old trees were companions of the ancient Greek momunments, and they made the site unique and special.

I cannot even begin to put feelings to words when it comes to the lives claimed by the fires. My heart goes out to the people who have lost their lives, lost loved ones, lost their homes. All of my heart is for you at this time.

I'm praying, hoping and wishing for something ... something just to stop the fires. I'm desperately wishing for rain. Please, just rain a little to help all of the firefighters and the locals who have to fend for themselves. Rain so that nothing else has to be lost.

Poseidon's Temple, Greece

Fall deeply and completely in love, and spend the rest of my life with him.
2. Never stop creating art.
3. Live in my own home ...
4. ... and decorate it exactly how I want.
5. Travel to Greece, and go island hoping through the Aegean.
6. Travel to Rome, Italy.
7. Grow my hair out really, really long.
8. Finish writing my novels.
9. Publish them. This isn't as necessary as I once thought it was, so perhaps just try and get them published, at least.
10. Build a holiday home in Greece.
11. See all or most of the classical Greco-Roman ruins.
12. Learn to speak Greek fluently.
13.
To Catch A Kiss

Feathers says ... arts! O, you better believe it. :3

Lineart & Colour. The Sun Was Raining

An abstract design, using pen, ink, watercolour and acrylic with a couple hours' work.
I am pleased with this. When I started, I had no ideas and no inspiration, and drawing these kinds of swirls and dots and hearts and whatnot always seems to help relax me when my muses go on vacation (always at the most frustrating times, it seems).

Watercolour, it also should be noted, is my kind of paint. I have no attention span for painting, really; when it comes to art, I'm more of a drawer than a painter. I like it because it doesn't require some grand production just to get the supplies out or clean them up, and if I wander away for a few minutes <strike>or days</strike>, all you have to do it put some water on the palette and the dry paint is once more ready to use again.

Ah, yes. The poem written on the second, coloured piece is mine. I do believe that I've posted it before. :)
